The Kindness Wrap

The Kindness Wrap
The Kindness Wrap

Previously known last week as Unnamed Pattern #1, I decided that The Kindness Wrap was a much better choice.  I am continuing my theme of being kind towards others.  It’s a tough world we live in and kindness will go a long way towards making it better.

This is a fun and easy pattern with an unusual shape.  Starting with three double crochets, the pattern grows on one side before becoming a rectangle that lays across the back.  To finish this wrap the double crochets are decreased until you reach the final point.

Materials

2 skeins or Red Heart Unforgettable (I used Tealberry)
J hook (6.0 mm)
Stitch markers (can be scraps of yarn you have on hand)
Darning needle and scissors (to weave in the ends)

You can substitute the yarn if you wish.  Just make sure that you have at least 540 yards of a worsted weight yarn.

Special Stitches

Beginning Double Crochet Decrease – Chain 2, yarn over and insert you hook into the first stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop (3 loops on your hook), yarn over and pull through 2 loops on your hook (2 loops on your hook), yarn over and insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over (4 loops on your hook), yarn over and pull through 2 loops (3 loops on your hook), yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on your hook.  Note:  This stitch will stretch the top V of the stitch so feel free to mark this stitch so it is easier to identify.

Double Crochet Two Together (dc2tog) – Insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop (3 loops on your hook), yarn over and pull through two loops (2 loops on your hook), insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop (4 loops on your hook), yarn over and pull through 2 loops (3 loops on your hook), yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on your hook.

Pattern

Start by making a magic ring.

Row 1:  Chain 3 and make two double crochets into the magic ring.

Row 2:  Chain 3, double crochet in the next stitch, make two double crochets in the last stitch.  This is the side you will do the increases and later the decreases so mark this side.

Row 3:  Chain 3 and double crochet in the same stitch.  Double crochet to the end.

Row 4:  Chain 3, double crochet across until you have one stitch remaining.  Put two double crochets into this stitch.

Row 5:  Chain 3 and put a double crochet in the same stitch.  Double crochet to the end.

Row 6:  Chain 3, double crochet across until you have one stitch remaining.  Put two double crochets into this stitch.

Rows 7 through 49:  Repeat rows 5 and 6 ending on the flat (non-decrease) side.

Row 50:  Chain 3 and double crochet across.

Rows 51 through 83:  Repeat row 50.

Row 84:  Beginning double crochet decrease, double crochet across to the end.

Row 85:  Chain 3 and double crochet until you have two stitches left.  Double crochet two together (dc2tog).

Rows 86 to the end:  Repeat rows 84 and 85.

Fasten off and weave in the ends.

I hope you enjoyed making The Kindness Wrap.  Let me know in the comments below if you have any questions or if you just want to show off your finished project.

Have an excellent day!
