Busy Washing Day on Monday

Normally, washing day happens on Sundays in my house.  It’s the best day since I can usually relax as I wait for the sun to dry my clothes.  This gives me an excuse to play some video games as I “guard” the laundry.

This week I did the clothing laundry as usual, but with a quick tumble in the dryer since the rain just would not let up.  Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and waste the electric just so you don’t smell like a mushroom.

I also spent the weekend spinning two art batts that are destined for my Etsy shop.  Since the Soffsilk® has texture, the yarn was not as even as I like it with too many lumps and bumps.  Someone else will appreciate it much more than I will.  I’m not quite sure what possessed me to buy it in the first place.  It was alright to spin once I put my “it must be perfectly spun” mindset away.  I put each spun batt into a center-pull ball to ply with itself so I would not waste any yarn due to the inconsistent way it spun.

Rainbow Wishes – much better the second time around

The Rainbow Wishes is in the bucket soaking as well.  It came out so much better than the muddy mess from a year ago.  I’m going to enter it into the Farm Fair competition just so I can gauge how far my spinning has come.  Same fiber, same spinner, just more knowledge and practice.

Trying Something New

Last Thursday I took a trip down the road to visit Stormwind Alpacas since I decided to take the plunge and try my hands at working with an entire fleece.  I found a lovely black blanket from a girl named Primrose.  Four ounces of lovely fiber are soaking in the kitchen this morning since it’s the only day that isn’t going to rain for the next few decades.  I’m going to a fiber swap on Sunday and this will be my contribution.

A clean Yuki
A clean Yuki is much better to look at than a dish pan of dirty water. So no photos of the the soaking alpaca fiber. 🙂

There is still ten ounces remaining that I am going to play with after it’s washed.  I also picked up some dyed alpaca that I will add to the black to create what I hope will be rather nice rolags.  I’m not sure that my shoulders will get through 18 ounces of rolags without running away screaming abuse, but we’ll see how far I get. 😉

Since I was out for most of Saturday and spun most of Sunday, I didn’t get a chance to do any gaming.  It was a pity because I was really in the mood to build something in Minecraft and cultivate some fields in Farming Simulator 17.  I compensated by catching up on videos instead.  Ah well…  Maybe next weekend.

How was your weekend?  Did you you do anything fun?  Let me know in the comments below.

Have an excellent day!
