WIP Tuesday – Asymmetrical Seashore Shawl

Asymmetrical Seashore Shawl
Asymmetrical Seashore Shawl – Try to say that three times fast.

Being in the midst of a hot and heavy summer, I decided it was high time to finish my Asymmetrical Seashore Shawl.  I don’t live too far from the “Jersey Shore”.  As a child I would spend a week with my extended family, enjoying the sun and sand.  When I got older, the trips were mostly with friends in the off-season to avoid the insane traffic.  But the allure of the sea lapping the sands remains with me to this day.  It’s mystical, ethereal, and haunting.

WIP Tuesday – Finally Done with the Single Crochets on the Hygge CAL

Close up of my progress on the Hygge CAL
Close up of my progress on the Hygge CAL

I am finally done with the single crochets on the Hygge CAL that I am working on for the Farm Fair.  Yipee!  Job well done, me! 🙂  Now comes the “fun” part.  Okay, once I get started it won’t be as bad as my pathetic brain keeps making it.

This is just a short (I hope) post about my progress so far.  As I went along, I placed a bright colored thread in the 1st, 10th, 20th, etc. rows so I would have a guide for the cross stitches.  I then tied these threads together to keep track of each part of the CAL.

WIP Tuesday – Changing Strategy

It only looks like a hot mess
It only looks like a hot mess. The index card has all my important notes while the scrap yarn lets me know where each row is.

I decided that changing strategy was going to have to happen with the Hygge CAL I am working on.  I was getting such anxiety that it came to a grinding halt and I almost called it quits.  At the rate I was going, that wrap wasn’t going to be done by the end of the year much less by mid-July.  So rather than doing each part with X amount of rows of single crochets followed by that part’s cross stitch, the single crochets needed to be done all at once.

WIP Tuesday – My Three Scheepjes Crochet Projects to Date

White and Black Scheepjes Stone Washed yarn
White and Black Scheepjes Stone Washed yarn

I brought all three of my Scheepjes crochet projects with me to the library this morning.  Since I couldn’t make up my mind which one to put in my bag, I took all of them.

With the forecast calling for heat and humidity, the cotton blend of the yarns were a good choice.  It’s usually a temperature control lottery in the library when the weather changes dramatically.  Today the room was relatively comfortable, no doubt because the heat wouldn’t arrive until later in the morning.

WIP Tuesday – Working on Part 2 of the Hygge CAL

In the middle of Part 2 of the Hygge CAL
In the middle of Part 2 of the Hygge CAL

As I continue on to part 2 of the Hygge CAL, I’m still not sure if it will be done in time for the Farm Fair.  The single crochets that make up a majority of the wrap are super easy and I could get through them in a week or two, even with numerous distractions.  I lack the confidence to do the cross stitch on a black surface.  It has been many years since I did any cross stitch work so I am hoping it will be much like riding a bicycle.

WIP Tuesday – A Bit of a Head Scratcher Today

Today’s blog post is a bit of a head scratcher.  Perhaps it’s the heat.  Perhaps it’s the sudden change in temperature from early March to late June.  It must be my brain melting.  That is the only explanation for it.

Deflated Mokona
“You don’t even look like a rabbit, Mokona.” “Oh, shut up.”

Mokona is doing her best impression of a rug this afternoon.

I’m struggling a bit today with finding an ongoing project to highlight for today’s WIP Tuesday so I turned to the Google machine to look for inspiration.  I’ve got good news and I’ve got bad news.

WIP Tuesday – Continuing to Work on the Dimholt Shawl

Dimholt Shawl – close up of stitches

The sun is shining and the trees are sprouting their leaves while the lilac flowers are smelling wonderful.  I continued to work on the Dimholt Shawl while I was at the library this morning.  It’s going to be a slow process since the yarn is much thinner than what I normally use and there is so much of it in the cake.

I’m still loving how slowly the gradient is in this yarn.  It adds to the fun, but doesn’t do much for my impatience.  The photo to the right doesn’t show the last row of back post double crochets because  they are hidden underneath.  You’ll be able to see them when I start the next set of repeats.

WIP Tuesday is Cancelled for the Day

I’m sorry to say that there isn’t much to discuss in my world of crochet so WIP Tuesday is cancelled for today.  After staying up way past my bedtime last night trying to get a Minecraft server together for my Mom and me, we skipped knitting because she had a doctor’s appointment.  Bad us. 😉

Now after being out all day, my lack of sleep is catching up with me.  I’m yawning and my eyes are bleary.    The forecasted rain doesn’t seem to be helping  Even Yuki seems to be feeling the change in barometric pressure as she just did a DBF (aka:  Dead Bunny Flop) at my feet.

One Lonely Crochet Project in the Works

My first dye project
My first dye project: an interesting dark rainbow gradient

I did manage to cake up my first dye project in preparation of putting it on my hook.  This is such an interesting gradient that I wanted to see how it really changes from one color to the next.  It looks even better as a cake and I can hardly wait to start turning it into something nice.  I had hoped for a corner to corner scarf, but with only 166 yards it will have to be something less grand.  Perhaps a thin cowl if I work it in the round.

New Toy

Contrary to what Yuki might be thinking, this new toy is not a birthday present.  Though it might be made of wood and tempting to chew if you are a rabbit, this is far from being for a bunny.  It’s a new blending board so I can play with even more fiber.  My fun isn’t going to end anytime soon.

My new blending board with its foot
My new blending board with its foot

It was a “factory second” and thanks to my Dad it now has a working foot.  Even if the rolags look less than stellar, my upper chest will be getting a workout.  LOL

There is a pile of fluff sitting in a bag that I desperately need to turn into spinnable fiber.  It’s all an experiment at this point so if it turns into mush, oh well.

How was your Tuesday?  Did you do what you needed to do or did you play hooky too?  Let me know in the comments below so we can swap stories of how bad we are.

Have an excellent day!

WIP Tuesday – The Adirondack Wrap

Adirondack Wrap by OneDogWoof
Close up of the stitches of my Adirondack Wrap by OneDogWoof

I came across The Adirondack Wrap by OneDogWoof designs a bit over a month ago when someone posted a link to the pattern on Facebook.  It wasn’t hard to fall in love with this wrap.  The geometry of three triangles sewn together to create one big rectangle caught my eye.  When I saw that it used Lion Brand Mandala, I knew I had to put it on my hook.  This is what I chose to worked on today at the library.

WIP Tuesday – What’s Next for the “Frog”?

What was once frogged...
What was once frogged…

Remember my post from last Tuesday about me frogging a sweater I knew I was never going to finish?  Oh, what a stir it caused!  I’m still laughing about the insanity!  But now I have to get back to work with the remnants of that stupid sweater.  It was an ugly frog that needs to become a handsome prince.  What shall it become?

Perhaps I should just chuck the whole lot and give it to charity.  The problem is that I am very stubborn when it comes to problems that need solving.  I will work on them far longer than I should.  And I’m afraid that this is the long road I will travel with this frogged yarn.
