Another Fiber-filled Weekend Full of Fun

The Family Collaboration
The Family Collaboration I showed off this weekend

Good grief!  Are there enough F’s in that title for you?  🙂  It truly was a fun fiber-filled weekend.  The anxiety I felt most of last week has subsided now that I am taking Monday to recover.  The blog should be back to normal with daily posts during the week.  I had to take a few days off for my own mental health.

The weather (I must be British) was doomy and gloomy, going from hot to cold with almost constant rain followed by humid days that made me melt like chocolate on the sidewalk.  It was a bad week if you wanted to remain cheerful.

Working on a New Shawl Idea …or Not

The final color combination
The final color combination

There are two organza bags full of lovely yarn that have been sitting on my shelf for about a year. I made sure to get a nice rainbow selection when I placed the order.  Then I added several more skeins of a creamy white so I would have a neutral to place between each color.

Did I have a pattern in mind when I hit the “Place Order” button on the website?  Are you kidding?  I like to live dangerously.  Who cares about dye lots?  So what if I need 300 more skeins of the yellow?  Pah!  That’s for noobs!

A Fiber Swap and Other Fun Stuff this Weekend

What a crazy weather weekend we had!  Saturday was rainy and cold then Sunday was hot and muggy.  I was so grateful that my crochet student gave me a cup of coffee when I came in for our lesson Saturday.  She even turned on the heater since we were both chilled to the bone with the dampness.

Sunday’s fiber swap was a bit nicer when the sun came out for a little bit.  It was so muggy though and the rain was not ready to give up as two showers passed as we spun.

Today’s weather is just about perfect with a few fluffy clouds and a nice breeze that is airing out the damp.  Hopefully, we have a few more days like today before summer hits with a bucket of humidity.

Busy Washing Day on Monday

One of two skeins from an art batt
One of two skeins from an art batt

Normally, washing day happens on Sundays in my house.  It’s the best day since I can usually relax as I wait for the sun to dry my clothes.  This gives me an excuse to play some video games as I “guard” the laundry.

This week I did the clothing laundry as usual, but with a quick tumble in the dryer since the rain just would not let up.  Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and waste the electric just so you don’t smell like a mushroom.

Keeping My Mind Occupied While I Crochet

Dimholt today
Dimholt today – Starting the lace panel

I try to keep my mind occupied while I crochet or spin.  Unless the crochet pattern is especially difficult, I need some form of entertainment or educational experience.  My mind has to be working or it wanders off somewhere and I loose my stitch count.

I’ve always liked mental activities, not physical ones. When I was in school, I hated gym class, but loved English and History. My ideal gym class would have been sitting in the bleachers reading a good book. Instead I had to move around and waste a precious forty-five minutes of my day doing activities I wasn’t very good at.

WIP Tuesday is Cancelled for the Day

I’m sorry to say that there isn’t much to discuss in my world of crochet so WIP Tuesday is cancelled for today.  After staying up way past my bedtime last night trying to get a Minecraft server together for my Mom and me, we skipped knitting because she had a doctor’s appointment.  Bad us. 😉

Now after being out all day, my lack of sleep is catching up with me.  I’m yawning and my eyes are bleary.    The forecasted rain doesn’t seem to be helping  Even Yuki seems to be feeling the change in barometric pressure as she just did a DBF (aka:  Dead Bunny Flop) at my feet.

One Lonely Crochet Project in the Works

My first dye project
My first dye project: an interesting dark rainbow gradient

I did manage to cake up my first dye project in preparation of putting it on my hook.  This is such an interesting gradient that I wanted to see how it really changes from one color to the next.  It looks even better as a cake and I can hardly wait to start turning it into something nice.  I had hoped for a corner to corner scarf, but with only 166 yards it will have to be something less grand.  Perhaps a thin cowl if I work it in the round.

New Toy

Contrary to what Yuki might be thinking, this new toy is not a birthday present.  Though it might be made of wood and tempting to chew if you are a rabbit, this is far from being for a bunny.  It’s a new blending board so I can play with even more fiber.  My fun isn’t going to end anytime soon.

My new blending board with its foot
My new blending board with its foot

It was a “factory second” and thanks to my Dad it now has a working foot.  Even if the rolags look less than stellar, my upper chest will be getting a workout.  LOL

There is a pile of fluff sitting in a bag that I desperately need to turn into spinnable fiber.  It’s all an experiment at this point so if it turns into mush, oh well.

How was your Tuesday?  Did you do what you needed to do or did you play hooky too?  Let me know in the comments below so we can swap stories of how bad we are.

Have an excellent day!

Rambling on a Monday Morning

Fractal Spin as of Monday Morning
This is today’s project so far. Check back later for the end result.

It’s Monday morning and the bun sisters are enjoying fresh hay while I sit at my computer trying to figure out what to write.  It will probably be another rambling post, since I don’t have a set topic for Mondays.

The weather is overcast and somewhat chilly with light blue heading this way.  I don’t think it will amount to more than a dusting if I even see one of those white “things” falling from the sky.  Rumor has it that the temperatures are going to warm up later this week.  Could that imaginary season of spring actually be heading this way?  Nah.  It’s all myth and legends, I tell ya’.

April Fool’s, a Day Late and a Dollar Short

Things that can make you cry
Things that can make you cry: Snow on your deck on April 2nd!

Yeah, so I woke up this morning to find that Mother Nature has the worst sense of humor of anyone else I know.  She also has a lousy sense of timing too.  Just look at the picture!  Really?  Yesterday was April Fool’s Day, but you wouldn’t know it from the mess on my deck today.  And it’s still coming down!

Yesterday I had the laundry drying on the deck and all the windows open as the sun shined.  The weather forecast seemed to be an April Fool’s joke so I ignored it.  Good thing I don’t have any plans to leave the house today.  The joke is on me (and everyone else in the area).

Writing a Personal Resume

Writing a Personal Resume
Is this you thinking about your job search?  Write a Personal Resume.

A Personal Resume differs from a normal resume in that you showcase your interests and hobbies.  These are the activities that you are passionate about and what brings you joy.  It doesn’t matter if you get a bit high on the smell of a well-baked tray of cookies or that you feel satisfaction when a painting is complete.  This is what defines you as a person, separate from the drudgery of those chores that lead to a paycheck.

Do you feel dissatisfied with yourself when you hand your prospective employer the same old resume, knowing you are so much more than what is printed in those bold, black letters on a drab, white sheet of paper?
